A very big thank you to the members of the Ohio University Student Alumni Board- and their supporters, for conducting a food drive event to benefit the Athens County Food Pantry today. They delivered an amazing 2,200 pounds of shelf stable food to us! Thanks to everyone that contributed to the effort! Our volunteers help prepare food aid every week.
This Sunday, October 7th is the Athens Crop Hunger Walk. (https://www.crophungerwalk.org/athensoh).
25% from the walk is staying local and being shared with the Athens County Food Pantry. Dogs on leashes welcome. (Don’t forget the clean-up bag!)
In conjunction with the walk, the Food Pantry will host an open house from 1 to 3 PM at 528 Richland Avenue (next to Edward Jones Investments). Come by and see what the Pantry does locally to help fight hunger in Athens County.
“Together, we can help end hunger in our community and around the world!”
The Citizens Bank provided a double benefit to the community by participating in the Athens County Fair livestock sale. They purchased two swine and a goat, with the purchases helping three young sellers. Then they donated the meat to the Athens County Food Pantry.
Dan Neason, a Pantry volunteer, received a call from Pine Ridge Processing in Flemming,Ohio. “They had approximately 200 pounds of frozen meat donated from the Citizens Bank of Athens for the Pantry. “I’m always grateful when we get these donations. There is such a need in Athens County.”
Later, The Food Pantry received word that two anonymous donors had each donated a head of beef, for a total of 390 pounds of ground beef.
The Food Pantry typically serves about 400 families/1,000 individuals a month, delivering aid as boxes and bags of nutritious shelf-stable food. Frozen meat, such as these donations, are distributed when we have a donated or purchased supply. It’s an item that our clients value.
We are an all-volunteer non-profit organization, and our dedicated team works to ensure that food is always available for those in need. We rely on the support of our community, including people like you who donate excess food staples or money to purchase food. A big thank you to Citizen’s Bank and our anonymous donors. Every donation helps to fight hunger in Athens county!
